Qatar is back on the world stage. If you’re making the trip to Vancouver for the match, here’s everything you need to know.
Qatar plays Canada in Vancouver on June 18, 2026, one of the most anticipated group stage matches of the entire tournament.
It’s a rematch of sorts: Canada and Qatar were in the same group at the 2022 World Cup in Doha. Now the roles are reversed.
Canada is the home side, playing in front of a packed BC Place. Qatar will have travelling supporters who’ve made a long journey to be there.
This guide is for you. Where to stay, where to find halal food, how to get around, what to expect from the city, and how to make the most of Vancouver.
The Match, FIFA World Cup Quatar vs Canada 2026
Qatar vs Canada Date: Wednesday, June 18, 2026
Venue: BC Place, 777 Pacific Blvd, Vancouver, BC
BC Place is a covered, modern stadium in the heart of downtown Vancouver with a capacity of around 54,000. It’s easy to reach by public transit, walkable from most downtown hotels, and well-equipped for large international crowds. The roof means matchday weather is never a concern.
Qatar will be facing a loud home crowd. Canada’s supporters have been waiting for this tournament for decades and BC Place will reflect that. Expect a full stadium and a charged atmosphere from the first whistle.

Where to Stay
Vancouver is an expensive city and World Cup month will push accommodation prices higher. Book early.
You can read more about where to stay during this time in our comprehensive guide.
Nomi Homes has short-term rental apartments across Vancouver and Burnaby. For visitors travelling from Qatar or the Gulf region, a full apartment gives you far more flexibility than a hotel, a private kitchen, more living space, and the ability to cook your own meals.
Other great areas we recommend:
Downtown Vancouver is the most convenient base. You’re close to BC Place, close to the best food options, and on the SkyTrain network for easy access to the rest of the city.
Yaletown is walkable to the stadium and has a strong restaurant and bar scene. A premium neighbourhood with a lively matchday atmosphere.
South Vancouver has a more established Muslim community and is closer to some of the city’s best halal food options. Worth considering if halal access is a priority during your stay.
Burnaby offers more space and better value, with SkyTrain connections into downtown in under 30 minutes.
Halal Food in Vancouver: A Proper Guide
Vancouver has a significant and growing Muslim community, and the halal food scene reflects that. You will not struggle to find good halal options, but knowing where to look makes the difference between a great meal and a frustrating search.
Tayybeh (Vancouver) – Middle Eastern comfort food, shawarma, kebabs, and dips, all halal.tayybeh+1
Sofra Mediterranean – Lebanese‑style dishes (falafel, dolma) with halal meat options.
Tamam (downtown) – Palestinian cuisine; halal lamb and vegetarian/vegan menu, all‑olive‑oil cooking.
Anatolia Express / Anatolia’s Gate – Turkish‑style kebabs and wraps, often cited on halal‑trip guides.
Zarak by Afghan Kitchen – Afghan rice platters, kebabs, and stews; TripAdvisor‑listed among top halal spots.tripadviso
Dewan‑e‑Khass / Dewan‑e‑Khass Vegetarian – Halal‑only Indian‑Pakistani restaurant with strong biryani and veg options.
Many “Tandoori”‑style spots on Main Street, Fraser Street, and in Surrey (e.g., Tandoori Oven, Agra Tandoori) are fully halal and very popular.
Getting to BC Place
BC Place is straightforward to reach from anywhere in the city.
SkyTrain: Stadium-Chinatown Station on the Expo Line is the closest stop, a short walk from the main entrance. The Canada Line also provides access nearby. Both lines connect through downtown and out to Burnaby.
Compass Card: The reloadable transit card covers SkyTrain, buses, and the SeaBus. Buy one at the airport or at any SkyTrain station. Tap on, tap off.
Walking: From downtown hotels, BC Place is 10–20 minutes on foot depending on where you’re staying. From Yaletown, under 10 minutes.
Rideshare: Uber and Lyft both operate in Vancouver. Useful for reaching the stadium but expect significant delays leaving the area after the match. Transit is faster post-game.
Driving: Not recommended for matchday. Parking is limited, traffic around BC Place after a sold-out game is slow, and transit is a better option in every respect.
